As you may or may not know, Naimuri is raising money for the charity Manchester Mind. The plan is for the group, who are aptly named the “Naimuri Strollers & Striders“, to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge over the weekend of June 16th/17th.
What are the 3 Peaks you ask? – They’re the 3 highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.
The challenge is to climb them all in a set period of time, which is where the Naimuri team branches into two.
- The “Striders” will be attempting to complete the challenge in under 24 hours (Naimuri hires the odd mountain goat it seems).
- The “Strollers” will be aiming to complete the challenge in a more leisurely and civilised time (still faster than the average person though it must be added.)
Of course first the team needed a practice run, so they decided to test the waters with Snowdon on Saturday 2nd June.
Despite getting to Snowdon by 8am, the car park was full at Pen-y-Pass which meant most of the team had to quickly improvise by finding alternate parking nearby. Christian however, now known by his fellow walkers as “Mad Max” because of his Manx TT style driving, was able to secure a parking space at Pen-y-Pass.
The majority of the team started their ascent at 09:30 in the lovely mist taking the Pyg trail to the top, with Olly and Ed following an hour or so behind. It was an eventful climb and there were many other charity groups there too – including one group that had a 6ft+ polar bear mascot strapped to the back of one of their team.
Everyone reached the top in good time (including Olly and Ed who had incredibly scrambled up in record time to join the rest) to enjoy a short lunch break before beginning their journey down the Miner’s track. As they descended, the mist began to clear and they were rewarded with fantastic views of the surrounding Snowdon valleys. They were then able to spend the rest of their day enjoying the hot weather with their legs up.
Luckily, everyone has now fully recovered from the practice run and they’re all ready for the main event – roll on June 16th!
