Day Two
After a great day yesterday, the whole team were excited for the start of Day 2. Days 2 and 3 are CyberUK in practice, which covers the practical side of cyber security.
The day began with introductions from Alex Dewdney from the NCSC, who is chairing the conference, followed by a talk from Dr. Claudia Natanson, CSO of the DCMS, who shared her experience of modernising and securing the IT in the largest and most outstretched government department.
Emma W from the NCSC then introduced the “People are the Strongest Link” stream and spoke of the Government’s shift towards helping people, by providing them with the right tools and policy to help them be secure and to encourage the providers of technology to make security that works for the user.
The Naimuri stand was once again busy, with lots of interest in what our artists are producing and our general message. The language and narrative we are using and our targeting of SMEs seems to be really well received.
Here’s a taster of what the artists are drawing at the stand. This is an illustration of the talk Emma W from the NCSC gave in the plenary session in the morning.
The sessions split into five streams and were interesting and informative. Of particular interest to me was stream two: “People are the Strongest Link”, with a highlight being the morning talks from Professor Angela Sasse and Professor Adam Joinson who both had some great insights on changing behaviour and accommodating the users.
The day closed with an introduction to Cyber First, the scheme to train the next generation in cyber security, followed by a keynote from Stemettes CEO Anne-Marie MBE, who spoke about the Stemettes organisation and the great work they’re doing. She also shared her personal story of getting into technology and explained how it was only when she started working in industry she “realised being a woman in technology was a thing”. In short, it was a great and inspirational talk and had some great insights and tips on how to promote diversity.
As is now the norm, we rounded out the evening with a drinks reception, augmented by short talks on the spotlight stage and some great live music. Roll on day 3.
